The Role & Project: 

 

As a proud Thiess company, MACA will provide specialist civil construction services at a greenfield copper mine in North West Queensland, located on the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon People.

 

MACA is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join our team working on this exciting new project on a 2:1 roster.

 

Locals in North West Queensland, including Members of the Kalkadoon community and other First Nations people, are highly encouraged to apply for this role on a BIBO basis. Depending on the successful candidate and the candidate’s location, the role can also be offered on a FIFO roster from either Townsville or Brisbane with accommodation on site.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Review/approve civil construction design of permanent and temporary works. 
  • Ensuring that company health, safety and environmental policies, statutory requirements, and other safety commitments are adhered to on-site with ownership and direction being provided by the site team. 
  • Provide and manage the program and strategies to enable the successful completion of the project within budget, on time and in accordance with the contract and the company's requirements. 
  • Ensure all procurement items are delivered on time and within budget. 
  • Ensure that suitable subcontractors are selected in terms of technical ability, cost within budget and safety and environmental compliance. 
  • Liaise with and assist in the management of subcontractors on site. 
  • Ensuring work is carried out in compliance with all relevant drawings, specifications, and procedures. 
  • Focal point for technical issues and ensure all issues are closed out in a timely manner. 
  • Schedule preparation, pre-planning, resource forecasting and other technical activities relating to the project. 
  • Assists with management of project team resources, monitoring of financial forecasts which ties into project schedule. 
  • Ensure all deliverables required under the contract have been approved and submitted to site prior to mobilisation. 
  • Review contractor documentation and quality control documentation to ensure compliance with requirements. 
  • Performance management of vendors and subcontractors. 
  • Inter-discipline coordination and overall quality control of the work, involving lot inspection and handover to the owner. 
  • Commitment, respect and compliance to safety, health, environment and cultural heritage policies, ‘zero harm’ objectives, health and safety initiatives, fitness for work policy and ECA vision and core values. 

 
To be successful in this role, you will possess: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field. 
  • 8+ years’ experience in civil engineering, with a focus on managing complex civil projects in a mining/civil/bulk earthworks construction environment. 
  • A current Australian driver’s licence. 
  • White Card. 
  • National Police Clearance. 
  • Experience leading high performing teams. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including presentation skills. 
  • Excellent influencing and interpersonal skills with people at all levels. 
  • Proven ability to demonstrate strong business acumen.
